If you have a talent for writing, and you are also lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender, you may find that you can get help paying for your education on a LGBT scholarship through the Queer Foundation, with the Queer Foundation Scholarship Fund. This is one of the few opportunities available to the LGBT community, in terms of scholarship funds, that is almost completely based on writing skill.

The Queer Foundation was established and incorporated as a non-profit organization in the state of Washington. The goal of the organization is to improve the circumstances of LGBT youth through education, and this is done with the Queer Foundation Scholarship Fund. The Queer Foundation Scholarship Fund was established in 2006. The award must be used to enter into queer studies, but there is no clarity as to what fields this actually covers.

In order to be eligible for the Queer Foundation Scholarship Fund, you must be an LGBT student who is out. You must also prove that you are an activist for the LGBT community, have a social conscience, be willing to fight discrimination, and be committed to the goal of social change. The Queer Foundation LGBT Scholarship Fund is officially called the Queer Foundation Effective Writing and Scholarships Program.

Each year, this fund awards at least one $1000 scholarship to a high school student who meets the eligibility criteria through a national essay contest. Each year, the foundation presents a different theme for the essay contest and LGBT scholarship program. The essays that win form Queer-the Curriculum Materials, which are used in high schools to raise awareness. While LGBT students are the focus for this scholarship award, their allies are also welcome to participate.

There is, of course, more to writing a great essay to win one of these awards. If you are selected as a finalist, you will then have to participate in an individual interview. Your references will also be checked at that point, and those who do well in the interviews, and pass the reference check will be awarded the $1000 prizes, which can be used at any accredited college or university in the United States.

Aside from the $1000 LGBT scholarship, the winners are additionally awarded with mentoring, tutoring, and academic advisement. Winners must maintain a good grade point average and give back to the LGBT community. The foundation is also favorable to those students who continue to publish queer studies papers as well as those who volunteer to mentor high school students and their college peers.

The deadline for submitting your application and essay occurs each year in February, and a great deal of focus is placed on the originality of the essay, the accuracy, effectiveness, objectivity, grammar, sentence structure, spelling, and punctuation. Your ability to change the reader’s opinion or attitude is extremely valuable in the selection process.

The Queer LGBT scholarship award is not that high but it may not be that difficult as others to win and it will help pay for some college tuition which is better then nothing at all.

If you are a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) student, you are considered to be a minority student, and this makes you eligible for the Eychaner Foundation Scholarship Program, which was set up specifically to help pay for the educations of minority students – to the tune of $35,000. This is essentially a minority scholarship program and would make an excellent LGBT scholarship opportunity.

Founded in 1975, the Eychaner Foundation was started by Rich Eychaner as a non-profit organization. The purpose of the organization is to promote tolerance for people from all walks of life. The foundation does not just offer the Howard and Mildred Eychaner Scholarship for Minority Students, but also manages the Matthew Shepard Scholarship Program. Since these programs were started, more than one million dollars in minority scholarships have been awarded.

The Howard and Mildred Eychaner Scholarship is only available to minority students who graduate from DeKalb High School in DeKalb, Illinois. Those students who win this award must show academic aptitude and achievement, as well as community service. Financial need is also a consideration. Additionally, you must have a GPA of 3.0 or better, as well as an ACT score of at least 22. This is a renewable scholarship that will pay up to $35,000 over a four year period. The funds may be used for books, tuition, or fees, but it can only be used at Northern Illinois University.

The Matthew Shepard award was set up in memory of Matthew Shepard who was killed at the age of 21 because he was gay. The Eychaner Foundation set up the scholarship fund in his memory in 2000, in an effort to further promote tolerance and awareness. Winners of this award must attend high school in the state of Iowa. The same standards are required to win this award, but additionally, you must show that you are active in the LGBT community.

There are two levels of this award. The first is the Silver Eagle Award, which pays $7000 over four years, and the second is the Gold Eagle Award, which pays up to $35,000 over a four year period, if you are attending a college in Iowa. The Silver Eagle Award can be used at any college in the United States.

Applications for the Eychaner Foundation Scholarship and the Matthew Shepard Scholarship are available in January each year, and the cation deadline for both LGBT scholarship programs occurs in March of each year, with winners announced in May. It is important to note that the Matthew Shepard Scholarship is only available to LGBT students, while the Eychaner Foundation Scholarship is open to all minorities. It is also important to remember that the Eychaner Foundation Scholarship is only open to students of DeKalb, Illinois who will be attending Northern Illinois University, and only those students are welcome to apply.

Examples of those who have won the award in the past include people who have worked on efforts to end the Vietnam War, for civil rights, racism issues, homophobia, and oppression in all forms. This scholarship program is funded 100% by donations, so the award amount, and the number of awards given, change from year to year. However, the highest amount ever awarded by this scholarship fund was $10,000. The amount awarded to you, however, will be dependent on how much is available in the fund, and how much you need for your education.

Applications for the Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund are not available until January of each year. The deadline for applying occurs on April 1st of each year. Applicants must be able to prove that they have been active in the struggle for social equality – even if equality issues do not apply directly to them. You must also show financial need, and prove that you have the ability to perform well academically.

This potential LGBT scholarship award is open to graduate students and undergraduate students who are enrolled in an accredited college. Your application package must include your application, transcripts, and letters of recommendation, a financial statement, a photograph, and a personal statement. You do not have to be a citizen of the United States, but you must live in the United States and plan to attend school there. Preference is given to students who also intend to remain in the United States after graduation.

The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund – a great source of LGBT financial aid – is ideal for those who are members of the LGBT community, because members of that community are almost always active in equality events at some point, and discrimination against those who are members of the gay community is the most common discrimination that we experience today.

Ali Nickel-Dubin was the founder of Colage, and upon his death, a memorial scholarship program was implemented, in an effort to help with the education expenses of those students who have parents or guardians that are gay, lesbian, or transgender. The LGBT Scholarship program was named after his father Lee Dubin. Lee Dubin was a gay man, with children, and he saw the importance of supporting the children of lesbians, gays, and transgender people, which makes the Colage Scholarship Program very essential to the LGBT community and their children.

The Colage Organization was not created for members of the LGBT community, but specifically for the children of those individuals, who have always faced a great deal of opposition from discriminatory people and organizations. The Colage organization works to support these children in a variety of ways. The Colage organization offers events, publications, leadership opportunities, activism opportunities, advocacy programs, and online communities for the children and young adults that it serves.

The Leadership Internship, named the Felicia Park-Rogers Summer Internship is also offered through Colage, which allows young people between the ages of fifteen and eighteen to help organize and lead a variety of events through the organization each year. This, however, is not a part of the Lee Dubin Memorial Fund, but it can set you up to be a winner of that fund at a later date, so it is a good idea to find out more about this ten week leadership internship that is offered through the organization.

Colage manages the Lee Dubin Memorial Fund, which awards four gay scholarships each year, in the amount of $1000. Preference is given to students who have parents who are a part of the LGBT community as well as those who show financial need. However, the organization states that any undergraduate is welcome to apply, and that there are no discriminations made during the selection process for these awards. With that said, preference is also given to students who have actually worked towards combating homophobia, racism, and other types of discrimination.

In order to be eligible for one of these four awards, you must be an undergraduate student, or about to enter college as an undergraduate. Graduate students will not be considered. Additionally, you must have a parent who is gay, lesbian or transgender, but the person could be your legal guardian as well. If you have not yet enrolled in college, you are not eligible. You must have and maintain at least a GPA of 2.0.

Additionally, if you win one of the Colage Scholarships, you must be willing to be named publicly, in connection with Colage, Horizons, and the LGBT Community. The deadline for applying each year for one of these four awards occurs in late April.

The PFLAG Scholarship for LGBT

If you are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) or you are a close friend, parent, or family member of someone who is look into the PFLAG scholarship.

If you are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender, or you are a close friend, parent, or family member of someone who is, you may be able to get a PFLAG scholarship to help pay for your college. While several scholarship funds make up the this LGBT scholarship program, typically, you will only be awarded one of the gay scholarships from the fund, but the lowest amount that you may win, if you are selected, is $1000, and numerous awards are made each year from the PFLAG Scholarship Program.

Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, known as PFLAG, is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1973 by Jeanne Manford, the mother of a gay man. She actually started planning the organization in 1972. While only 20 people attended the first meeting for the organization, today there are over 200,000 members, with more than 500 chapters of the organization in the United States.

Each year, PFLAG awards numerous scholarships, which come from tend different funds. All of these funds have been combined into two funds that are actually Trusts. These trusts are the Palmer B. Carson Trust and the GLAD, or Gay, Lesbian and Allies Dow. The fund that awards the highest number of scholarships is the PFLAG National Scholarships Fund, which gives out eight $1000 scholarships.

The other college scholarships that make up this fund continue to add funds yearly. $5000 each comes from the Carson B. Palmer Memorial Scholarship, the Jeanne Manford Memorial Scholarship, and the Straight for Equality Ally Scholarship. $2500 is added from GLAD Employee Network, the GLAD Employee Network National LGBT Scholarship, the Jake G. Taylor Memorial Scholarship, and the New York Gay Football League PFLAG Scholarship. $1000 comes from the Carson B. Palmer Nevada Resident Scholarship and the Esera Tuaolo Athletic Scholarship.

In order to be eligible for any of these awards, you must be a graduating high school senior and entering college for the first time in the coming school year. You must also self identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender, but you may also apply if you are none of these but you are an ally of someone who is. Additionally, preference is always given to those who express a true interest in somehow serving the LGBT community, as well as those who have already been serving this community on some level.

You must submit the completed application, a one page essay, your high school transcript, a letter of reference, and a release form to the selection committee and the deadline for applying each year occurs in mid-March. One application covers all of the LGBT scholarships listed here, but each individual PFLAG scholarship fund may have other specific requirements in order to be eligible, but you don’t really have to worry about being eligible for all of them, as long as you meet the requirements for at least one of the scholarships that are available.
