The Eychaner Foundation Scholarship Program

The Eychaner Foundation Scholarship is also a LGBT scholarship because it’s a minority scholarship program and LGBT students are considered minorities.

If you are a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) student, you are considered to be a minority student, and this makes you eligible for the Eychaner Foundation Scholarship Program, which was set up specifically to help pay for the educations of minority students – to the tune of $35,000. This is essentially a minority scholarship program and would make an excellent LGBT scholarship opportunity.

Founded in 1975, the Eychaner Foundation was started by Rich Eychaner as a non-profit organization. The purpose of the organization is to promote tolerance for people from all walks of life. The foundation does not just offer the Howard and Mildred Eychaner Scholarship for Minority Students, but also manages the Matthew Shepard Scholarship Program. Since these programs were started, more than one million dollars in minority scholarships have been awarded.

The Howard and Mildred Eychaner Scholarship is only available to minority students who graduate from DeKalb High School in DeKalb, Illinois. Those students who win this award must show academic aptitude and achievement, as well as community service. Financial need is also a consideration. Additionally, you must have a GPA of 3.0 or better, as well as an ACT score of at least 22. This is a renewable scholarship that will pay up to $35,000 over a four year period. The funds may be used for books, tuition, or fees, but it can only be used at Northern Illinois University.

The Matthew Shepard award was set up in memory of Matthew Shepard who was killed at the age of 21 because he was gay. The Eychaner Foundation set up the scholarship fund in his memory in 2000, in an effort to further promote tolerance and awareness. Winners of this award must attend high school in the state of Iowa. The same standards are required to win this award, but additionally, you must show that you are active in the LGBT community.

There are two levels of this award. The first is the Silver Eagle Award, which pays $7000 over four years, and the second is the Gold Eagle Award, which pays up to $35,000 over a four year period, if you are attending a college in Iowa. The Silver Eagle Award can be used at any college in the United States.

Applications for the Eychaner Foundation Scholarship and the Matthew Shepard Scholarship are available in January each year, and the cation deadline for both LGBT scholarship programs occurs in March of each year, with winners announced in May. It is important to note that the Matthew Shepard Scholarship is only available to LGBT students, while the Eychaner Foundation Scholarship is open to all minorities. It is also important to remember that the Eychaner Foundation Scholarship is only open to students of DeKalb, Illinois who will be attending Northern Illinois University, and only those students are welcome to apply.

Consider these LGBT scholarships from the CGSF if your interest is on todays’ gender and sexuality issues. Although there are numerous scholarship opportunities for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people, there are just a handful of fellowship opportunities. The difference between a fellowship and a college scholarship is that fellowships tend to award more funds, in the form of stipends, grant the student privileges, and often include tuition as well. When it comes to the Center for Gender Studies Fellowships (CGSF), you do not have to be a member of the LGBT community. Instead, your dissertation must be about gender or sexuality issues.

The Center for Gender Studies was founded in 1996, at the University of Chicago. The Lesbian and Gay Studies Project is housed at the Center for Gender Studies, and the organization exists for research and education concerning all aspects of gender issues and sexuality issues as they pertain to gender.

Each year, the Center for Gender Studies sponsors three separate Fellowships. These three fellowships are the Center for Gender Studies Dissertation Writing Fellowship, the Center for Gender Studies Residency Fellowship, and the James C. Hormel Dissertation Fellowships in Lesbian and Gay Studies.

In order to be eligible for the Center for Gender Studies Dissertation Writing Fellowship, you must be attending the University of Chicago, and you must be in a PhD program. The discipline that you are studying does not matter, but your dissertation must focus on issues that have to do with gender or sexuality. Those dissertations that focus on race or economic hierarchy can also be considered. This fellowship lasts for three full quarters. It is important to note that other funding through the University of Chicago may have a detrimental effect on your eligibility for this fellowship. The amount of money awarded for this CGSF fellowship is $15,000.

While the requirements for winning and keeping the Residency Fellowship are not as stringent, there are still requirements that focus on the student’s dissertation, and the requirement that the dissertation focus on gender and sexuality issues. This fellowship does not have a stipend, however. Instead, it awards the winner an office at the Center for Gender Studies, as well as privileges at the center. Again, the winner will be a student from the University of Chicago.

The James C. Hormel Dissertation Fellowships in Lesbian and Gay Studies are awarded with a stipend of $14,000, and the winners must be students of the University of Chicago and enrolled in a PhD program. Additionally, they must be writing dissertations on lesbian, gay, and queer studies. This fellowship also covers the student’s tuition, insurance, and fees for the school year that it is awarded, making it extremely lucrative.

The application deadline for all three CGSF fellowship opportunities occurs on March 31st of each year, and there are no exceptions to this deadline. Competition for all three financial aid fellowships is considered to be quite strong.

Astraea sponsors very important LGBT scholarships and grants for individuals and other organizations that are a part of the LGBT Community for college students.

If you are a member of the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, and Transgender Community, or LGBT, and you are seeking an education, you need to know about the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice. This is an organization that also sponsors very important LGBT scholarships and grants for individuals and other organizations that are a part of the LGBT Community.

The Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice began in 1977, and was mostly comprised of women from a vast array of diversity from around the world. While the program was not designed or implemented to help individuals, it was founded to help other organizations that work to help individuals, and while the initial scope was lesbian women, the foundation now helps organizations that serve people of all sexes that are a part of the gay and lesbian community.

LGBT Grants and scholarships that are available through Astraea include the Fund for Sexual Minorities, the US Fund Panel Grants, the Margot Karle Scholarship Fund, the Astraea Visual Arts Fund, and the Lesbian Writers Fund. The Fund for Sexual Minorities has no deadline for applying, and required documents are accepted year round. This fund is not for individuals, but for other organizations, and can be awarded in varying amounts up to $10,000. The same is true for the US Fund Panel Grants, with the exception that it is only available to organizations based in the United States.

The Margot Karle Scholarship Fund, the Astraea Visual Arts Fund, and the Lebian Writers Fund are all awarded to individuals. The deadline for the Margot Karle Scholarship fund occurs in early September of each year, and notification of awards is made in December of each year. This LGBT scholarship is awarded to undergraduate women who are attending the City University of New York. The amount of this award is unspecified, and depends on how much is available in the fund.

The Astraea Visual Arts Fund also has a deadline that occurs in early September each year with notifications made in December. Applicants must reside in the United States, and this award is made to a visual arts contemporary lesbian each year. Each year, three grants are awarded in the amount of $2500 each.

The Lesbian Writers Fund award is made to lesbian poets and lesbian fiction writers who reside in the United States, and the deadline for applying occurs in July of each year. This fund awards twelve women, for a total amount of $26,600 each year. Like the Astaea Visual Arts Fund, the awards are considered to be lesbian grants, as opposed to lesbian scholarships or loans.

It is important to note that to be eligible for any three of these programs, you must be attending City University of New York, or you must be pursuing an education or career in visual arts or writing – and most scholarships are made to Lesbians, but may be made to other members of the LGBT community.
